The Sorrowful Rebel Chapter Four The Yolk Of The Rebel

 Eagerness

It was early in the morning and Loc wanted a mission. No, she needed a mission. She did not just need a mission but one that would keep her busy. She wanted to focus on the present and not even have to think about the past. Nor did she want to focus on how she was treated by all around her. She also wanted to have focus in her life and a distraction from all her life until now.

She slipped out of bed and took a quick shower. She then quickly put on her clothes and walked out of her room. She walked as fast as she could immediately to Light Bringer's office. She did not think of anything but getting to this room. She knocked on the door.

"Come in!"

"Do you have a mission for me?" She asked, barely entering the room.

"No. Not at the moment. Why?"

Suddenly she felt a tug of disappointment in her gut.

"I want to go on one."

"Then I will call if I have one."

She let out a roar.

"But I want one now!"

He let out a deep breath.

"I'm sorry but I can't at the moment. Why don't you go to the library I'm sure-"

"But I don't want to go to the library! I want to be out there, on a mission as soon as I can. I need to be out there!" She almost begged.

He closed his mouth and looked aside to a set of drawers. His eyes narrowed for a moment. He sucked his cheeks as he thought and put his hands together. He did this for a long time. She felt her frustration build as she waited there in the silence. She noticed that the clock was ticking and this started to irritate her. He then looked at her for a moment and smiled slightly.

"Then I will find one for you. I'm sure that there is at least one I could find for you. In the meantime, have you had your breakfast yet?"

"No."

He raised his eyebrow.

"Then have your breakfast and read some books. I hope that there are some more things a girl like you could find that we may not."

Her lip curled as she frowned, wondering if that was a compliment or an insult.

"'Girl like you'?"

"A girl from another world."

She nodded, feeling quite hurt by the comment. After all, it reminded her that she did not belong here.  She knew that she would never belong here. In fact she knew deep down that she did not belong anywhere since her sisters killed her parents. Yet she could not quite put into words just how much that she hated it. It was like she was in a prison that she could not quite escape despite being able to move freely.

He let out a huff as he looked down with a slightly annoyed look in his eyes.

"But don't see that as a negative thing, Loc. It sometimes takes an outsider's perspective in order to find what the natives will always miss. Like the fact that you have noticed that none of the books here have any description on what the Evil Emperor looks like and, in the short amount of time that you have been here, you have done more for the rebellion. And, on top of that, moved this rebellion further than I ever could have hoped! My, the place that you have taken us these past months we could only dream of!" He said, picking up on her hurt. "So don't see it as a bad thing. After all, I think we needed an outsider."

She nodded and smiled shyly. Feeling slightly embarrassed at the fact that she was hurt by it and the compliment.

"Alright, I will go. But I still want that mission."

"Then I will find one. I will collect you from the library later."

She nodded, feeling less restless but only slightly.

"Thank you and I'm sorry." She said as she left.

She still needed a mission but she could still be patient. She could tell that she needed a mission and one given to her before lunch. She also knew that she might just find herself back here if she did not have one. She did not know why but neither could she truly describe it in words. It was like a desperation to get back on the battlefield and she felt a strange excitement to be getting back to it.

She had her three cubes, which tasted like blueberry muffins, and was back in the library. She tried to read the books but, as her eyes moved from book to book, she found it difficult to focus on the words. Her mind was still on the battles that she was more than itching to fight. So after trying over and over again, she gave up on reading.

What's wrong with me? I love books! Then why can't I focus?

I want a mission, that's why. I need one. I want to go on one. I don't care which. I don't even care if it's so dangerous or hard that it would land me in another slave base. I just have to go on one.

I don't think that I will be able to focus on anything else.

Then what? I don't want to get addicted to this. No, I might end up becoming worse than Grasharlo if I do!

She shuddered at the prospect. She did not like that thought whatsoever. She just wanted to get it out of her head and get it out completely. She might as well have turned herself over to her sisters if she could if that was the case. Yet she could not. If there was one good thing about all of this, is that she would never have to think or worry about all that for a long time.

With this she tried again to get her head into a book. Only for Light Bringer to approach her with a file as she reached out to a book. She smiled as she felt excitement and relief take over her heart.

"You found one?"

"Yes. Now come with me."

She followed him to his office. She sat in front of him.

"You know how you like books?"

"I love them, yeah. Why?"

He handed her a file. She opened it. She found a picture of a building that looked like it was made of metal.

"This is the Library Of the Empire. I want you and your team to secure it."

She looked at it, her eyes alight as she nodded.

"Right. Thank you."

"Should you do that I also want you to ensure that all the defences are down. Should this go south, then get as many books as you can and get out of there."

She nodded.

"Alright. I will do what I can. You never know, there might be one of those books that have a description of what the Evil Emperor looks like!"

"Yeah…there might be."

"I'll set off as soon as possible."

"Alright, but don't forget your team."

"Right."

She soon called her team and told them the mission.

"Do you have a plan?"

Yes. Get in and collect a few books then get all the defences down. Once they are then we ensure to let that Light Bringer know. I am sure that there will be more teams ready to get the rest of the books."

"Makes sense."

"Then after lunch we will be setting off." She said as they went to eat.

Once they were all finished they all got ready and were soon on the minibus.

"Now, if all goes south, get all the books that you can and put them there." She said, pointing to the seats at the back.

"Right."

Life drove them to their destination. She looked at the map and saw that there was an entrance point at the back where there was a small car park. It was all too clear that the car park was hardly used as the grass and vines had almost covered the ground. They soon saw a gate that was almost covered by overgrowth.

They soon walked up to it and spotted that the gate opened inside with a padlock wrapped in vines. To Break walked to the lock and picked it up with one hand and soon was picking it with the other. Meanwhile the rest turned their backs on him and raised their guns to keep an eye out for anyone who was coming. Yet they did not have to wait and keep a look out for long as he soon picked it and they were soon in.

She spotted that there were just two guards in the tunnel. She ran up to the two and they were out before they could do anything, they soon fell. She looked down to see a pad of buttons. She looked back to To Open. She raced to it and then brought out a pad and unscrewed the cover. She then put it down and cut a few wires and then typed away. She took out several metal stands and put on small metal clamps that looked like a tiny alligator head. She then tapped away at the pad. Soon there were a few beeps and flashes of green lights.

The door opened and she packed everything away. She soon put the cover back on. They then went in. They soon came to another door. After tapping at her pad the door opened. Distant Battle soon shot at a few guards. Meanwhile Loc pulled out a few shards of firecrys and set them alight as she threw them at their heads.

Then they soon ran on and soon came to a shelf of books and opened their bags and took as many books as they all could carry. They all had ten each, fifty in total. Loc then took To Open to the nearest computer.

"Quickly, do what you can to get as much information as you can as fast as you can."

"Right."

She was soon plugging a memory stick into the computer and typed away.

"To Break, Distant Battle take these bags and get back to the bus. Then empty them and bring them back. While I will do all that I can to protect To Open and Life protect the men."

"Right."

They soon collected their bags and were soon off. She looked back as she typed away. She had her hand in the pouch of firecrys. Her eyes darted about. She soon spotted more guards and she threw lit firecrys at them. Then she saw more come and raised their guns. She soon spotted that they were aiming at To Open. She ran to her as they fired. She then threw out more firecrys at them and set them alight. She saw more coming. She had to do all to not give into the pain as she set them alight and throwed them again and again.

That was when gunfire came from behind the guards coming and the three lowered their guns. They soon refilled their bags with books.

"Are you getting close to being done?"

"Y-yes."

She looked back to To Open to see that she had been shot in the arm.

"Right, now take down the defences and then let's get out of here." She shouted and she pulled out the memory stick.

After they raced to the minibus. They soon arrived and once they were there, Life soon set off and they were back in the base before tea. They all took their showers and To Open had her wounds attended to. However, they had to operate on Loc to get the bullets out of her. Then she soon typed her report as the books came in and were delivered to the base. Then she handed in the report.

"Good work."

She smiled.

"Thank you."

"We will be sending more teams to collect the rest of the books. By the way, congratulations on getting those one hundred books."

"Thank you."

"Get on and ready the team."

She let out a chuckle.

"After tea."

Pushing It

Loc woke up early as always the following day. In fact she had hardly slept a wink, yet she did not feel tired at all. She whipped out of bed. She took a quick shower, put her clothes on as always. She did this all as quickly as she possibly could. She walked out and raced to the hall and quickly ate her cubes, which tasted like Turkish delight this time, and soon raced to Light Bringer's office.

She knocked on the door.

"Come in!"

He looked up at her and smirked. He was about to open his mouth to speak.

"Have you got another mission for me?"

"Yes, yes I do." He said, slightly caught off guard.

She took the file and looked at the prints on blue paper. She looked up, confused, wondering what this was all about.

"It's the blueprints of a firecrys mine. What I want you and your team to do is to go to the mine and arm all the workers there."

"And after that?"

"Just get one mission over first. Then we will arrange for another assignment later."

She nodded.

"Then I'll get on that right now and consider it all done!"

She soon got her team together and, after discussing and making a plan, Life soon drove them to their destination. She soon took out the shards from her pouch and flashed the flames at the guards. They soon moved in and then they were out. To Break soon had the group in. They all grabbed a bag of weapons and raced in.

"We need to go to the grey doors. They took me to the grey doors when they had me."

They nodded and separated and raced to the closest grey door. She spotted that there was a lock. She slid a lit shard of firecrys into the hole. Then once she heard a click she pulled the door open. Then she saw the guns pointing at her. She then flicked some lit firecrys and they were soon on the ground with their heads alight! She took out a weapon and threw one at the prisoner.

"Use it!"

He looked down and then picked it up. She then moved to the next one and the next one. Once all of them had their weapons, slid a shart of lit firecrys in and she kicked the door in and fired at the guards. Then she threw the gun to the prisoner. She did this again and again and soon there were more firing at the door and then at the guards and tossed to the one in the cell. Once the ground floor was covered they all moved onto the next floor. There they repeated their actions making sure that all of the prisoners were all armed. Then moved onto floor after floor. By the time the clock struck nine, they had covered the mine and all of the guards were dead.

They were soon bringing all the prisoners to the back of the bus and back to the base. Light Bringer sent more teams to the mines and helped the former prisoners giving them medical attention and something decent to eat. Once Light Bringer sent a team to the mines and there set up several machines to grind the firecrys.

She soon went back to Light Bringer. Her eyes were still eager and her energy was still high. She still did not feel satisfied and her hunger for a mission increased.

"What's the next one?"

He passed her the sheet.

"This is the location of a weapons facility, like the one that you and…Wolf Raven took down. Your job is to secure it and return with all the weapons."

She nodded.

"And will I need my team for this one?"

"Only Life. You still don't know how to drive yet."

"Right. By the way, will I be taught how to drive those things?"

"Might as well do." He sighed.

She nodded as she left. She soon found Life. They were back on the road. Yet Loc noticed that she was feeling slightly annoyed but she did not complain at all. Loc rolled down the window. Took out a gun and shot the six guards outside the facility. Which, even though it was bigger than the last one but only slightly.

"Barge out into the gate."

"Right."

They were past the fence before they knew it. She got out of the car and searched the guards. Loc soon found the key. Soon unlocked the door. She was greeted by eight guards. She then plucked several firecrys from her puch and then lit them and threw them at them. The back guards were set on fire. She then fired at the heads of the front. The middle looked back shocked. They then turned back and were about to fire at her before they fell.

"You've been practising?"

"Yes. As I do have powers of my own but I must admit that I have found that they're fading as are the others that were experimented on by Father Of Knowledge. So I think that I will have to make the most of it as much as I can. After all we all know that they will all be gone in a good couple of days."

She nodded then ran passed a gun to her.

"Guard the entrance aa I gather as many guns as I can."

She then ran on and jumped over the dead guards and ran into the building. She was soon greeted by a set of stairs and she ran down the stairs. Then she was greeted by more guards. She pulled out two guns and fired at the closer guards. She then felt a few bullets in her. The pain caused her to drop the guns.

I can use this!

She then fell down. She closed her eyes. The guards walked close to her. She then flicked lit firecrys shards at them. She soon got up and ran to the other and fired. She ran down the rest of the stairs firing at each of the guards that aimed their guns at her. She soon finished the rest of the stairs. She then looked up and ran into the floor and fired at guard after guard and ran on and came to another set of stairs. She then ran up floor after floor taking out guard after guard.

Yet when she finished she was extremely tired but she still wanted to get more done. So once the rest of the rebellion had fully secured the weapons facility, and typed up her report, she was back in Light Bringer's office.

"What next?" She asked as she handed them both in.

He let out a huff.

"Another one? Loc, you have already done two today!"

"I know, but I know that I can handle it."

"If you continue, you will overstretch yourself!"

"I don't care."

He let out a huff.

"Fine, here. It is simple. There is a group of people that should be coming. Take Life and ensure that they get back here."

"Right, we'll be right on that."

"And don't forget to eat!" He called.

She left before she heard this last part. She soon found Life and the pair of them were soon off in the minibus They soon arrived at the docs, where a small group stood. All that they had on them was a single rucksack no different that the ones that she and Wolf Raven had on when they took off to that smaller base. They soon got out and walked up to them.

"Are you the group we're supposed to escort?"

"Ye'!"

She nodded and had them all strapped in and on the road. They were driving smoothly when they all saw a few cars pull up to their minibus. Loc looked in and saw the black gear that each of them was wearing. She rolled the window down. She threw out a shard of firecrys and lit it and threw it at the tires. This caused the car to be temporarily lifted up as it went bang! Then the other from behind crashed into the car in front flipping it over and slamming into that car.

"Loc!"

"Keep driving!"

"Mum, are we going to die?" Asked a child with blue skin, bronze horns and green glowing eyes.

"No. You aren't!"

"How do you know? And what are you?"

"Loc. A girl- no, a woman from another world? Now Life, step on it!" She shouted as a car rammed into them.

She pulled out more shards and threw them at the cars. Life moved away from the car before it exploded. The other car driver looked at the other car in front.

"Back into the side."

"Right."

She did, forcing the car aside and it spun. The car waited until the right moment and she threw the lit firecrys at them and with another bang they lost them.

Loc let out a sigh, as she could feel her energy levels dropping start to get to her as they arrived. She parked up and looked up at the clock. She noticed that it was no less than three o'clock. She then walked to Light Bringer's office.

"Are you not going to take a break?"

"No."

"Then pick a new book and read it. You might learn something and didn't I tell you to get some lunch?"

She nodded as she walked to the library and fell asleep as she read.

Breaking Point

Loc woke at no earlier than five in the morning after another restless sleep. She got up, showered and put her clothes on. She did this as fast as she could. She continued to read the book that she started the day before. She looked at the clock and knew that it was too early to ask for a mission. So she just stayed there as she ignored her rumbling stomach as she read.

The Serpentine Stars were finally able to

locate the Nameless Emperor at an old castle

but he was far too strong for them. Not one

survived and the next moment our location

was uncovered. Which I barely escaped.

Oh the horror! Their bodies were all put on

display for all to see! However the one thing that

broke me was not the bodies of my comrades. It

was seeing your body, my love!

She noticed that there were smudges and darkened areas. She could even see a few fingerprints all over it. She knew that it was not from age but tears. Whoever wrote this knew these Serpentine Stars.

Oh! I wish I would have spent more time with

you Ethotaar Searlette. We may have come

from two different worlds but I wish I could

have told you…You have become my world.

Whichever world that you ended up in the

after life I surely hope to follow you. The

sooner the better, I hope.

"Wait, there were others from other worlds here?" She shouted out loud.

Oops!

She shook her head and then took the book and raced to Light Bringer's office.

"Ahhh! Loc-"

"There were others."

"What?"

"There were others that came here from other worlds. As in, other than Gajellidor Darcrogh."

"Oh?" He said, aloof.

She showed him the book. He soon read what was written. He looked down for a moment as his eyes widened. He looked up at her in shock.

"So there were! Look Loc, there is another facility that has more books. I want you and your team to get them. From what I gather, I can tell that even though there are less books, it will bring more knowledge. You never know, there may be a book that will reveal what the Evil Emperor looks like."

"Right. I'll get on that once I have had my breakfast."

She soon ate her cubes as her team ate theirs.

"What? There were other people that came here?"

"Never mind that! Why did he present their bodies? That's just creepy." Life admitted as she took Distant Battle's hand and squeezed it.

"Do you think that there is any religious significance? Back in my world, there was a dark and disbanded sisterhood that would sacrifice their prisoners and would ensure that the next victims would clean their corpses and show them out of their dwelling place completely nude. They would believe that this would display their power over them."

"Blimey, that's even creepier than what the Evil Emperor did!"

"Maybe…maybe you should keep looking."

They soon set off and we're at the facility. It was surprisingly small yet there were more guards. This told her that the books inside were more important than the last one. So, the moment that they drove up to the facility, she knew that they would have a fight on their hands.

She slid her hand into her pouch and gripped some firecrys. She counted twenty guards in total that were visible.

I can do this. Though it will be hard.

She soon saw the guns and she pulled out the shards and set them alight and threw them. They all fired at the shards. She then looked down at the grass. Then she noticed that it was very dry. She threw the lit shards at the grass. This caused the grass to combust. The guards looked down at the fire. She took this moment of destruction and fired at two of them.

Yet this allerted the other guards which decided. One group was putting out the flames while the others guarded them. They soon fired at her. She would have been hot if Life hadn't pulled her back and yet, she still felt the bullet in her shoulder. She had to grit her teeth as she had to take out more shards and threw them at the guards. Yet as soon as the bullets came, she threw another row and hit three more.

She then fired at some more, yet the moment she counted, she noticed that she had whittled it down to just ten guards.

That was when To Break and Distant Battle took out their weapons and killed five each. The rest got out and Loc looked at the flames. She then closed her eyes and then willed the fire to be put out. They then moved to the door. This one had both a lock and a pad. To Break and To Open were already on getting into them. The rest raised their guns to the door. They were soon in and, once the doors opened, they fired at all the guards that they could see. Soon they all ran in and fired at more and more guards.

They all ran to the first floor and To Open and Life took as many books as they could as Distant Battle and To Break guarded them as they did. Meanwhile Loc ran on ahead and noticed that the roof was too short for her to be attacked from above. So she ran to the doors and opened the door to the stairs. She ran in and then she saw a group of guards on the stairs. She then fired at each and every one of them. She then ran on and combed through the levels to see that there were no more there.

So they took the books and drove off.

"So what's next?"

"We see your injuries."

"I meant mission."

"Seriously? We've just done one!'

"Listen to your team."

"Is there anything else I can do?"

"We will talk once you have seen to your injuries. But I think that you should rest. You look tired."

"I'm fine thank you!"

She was soon back in the office once the bullet had been removed.

"You're very persistent."

"Just give me a mission."

"Fine. Here."

He handed her a file.

"There is an abandoned lab in the East District. There is a rumour going around that there is a file on one of the old computers that identifies key scientists, other than Father Of Knowledge, that have been helping the Evil Emperor build more powerful weapons for the empire against both us and their own people."

"Right. I'll be on that."

"Oh! And one more thing. There is another saying that one of these scientists knows what the Evil Emperor looks like."

"Got it!"

She soon rounded up Life and the others.

"Sorry, can't." Distant Battle said.

"Why?" She almost snapped.

He let out a shy sigh. His cheeks blushed.

"I have a date, and I don't want to keep her waiting."

She nodded as she refrained from submitting to anger.

"Right, I know that this is important to you and you need your life. So enjoy your date."

He nodded.

"Also I have one too, so I will put To Open to the task of driving you there and back again." She too said, slightly shy too.

"I know and I hope that you two do well. After all, we can't let the Evil Emperor get in the way of love."

They were soon off. They soon arrived at the lab and got out. The first thing that she noticed was that the place looked as if it had been falling apart for a while and it was so old that the barbed and fence had no electricity running through it. So they were all able to walk in and To Break opened the door. They then walked in and got into an old lift. To Break had to stay and pull at the metal rope so that they could descend. They then were soon at the bottom. They soon spotted the rotting and rotting deformed skeletons. Yet she noticed some looked twisted and nothing like Loc had ever seen before in this world.

"What in the world is this?"

"What? Isn't this normal for this world?"

"N-no!"

"Just-just what were they working on down here?"

"I don't know but we need to find that computer. The answers might be on that."

"Y-yeah."

They soon did and it had a large keyboard with a monitor the size of a room. To Open was soon on it.

"Found it!" She said after a few short minutes.

"Well, that is big!"

Life put the stick in.

"Life,what is that?"

"A memory stick."

"Tell me, do you have any dates planned?"

"One, next week." She said as she took a glance at To Break.

"Then, I think all of you should tell me if you need time to yourself or have a date." She told them, wanting them to be able to have a life, unlike her.

"Right."

Soon they all had all the files that were on the computer.

"Life, could you teach me how to do that?"

"Sure." She said as they set off.

They soon arrived. She then walked her through the basics. After she typed her report and handed it in.

"Is there anything that I can aid another team with?" She asked.

"Why?"

"I want to have another mission but I do want my team to have a break."

He nodded.

"Alright. Wolf Raven has a mission to the West Bank. You can accompany him."

"Thank you."

She soon joined Wolf Raven and they soon were off. They arrived at the bank. She climbed out of the car.

"Let's get this done!"

They walked in and then looked around at the turquoise blocks. The manager walked up to them. He gave them a suitcase each, but then the man ran up to them and shot the manager and he fell. She then took her gun out and shot him. Then more men ran up to them. She shot man after man. Then she felt someone hit her.

She looked to her left to see a man with a knife. He slashed at her and she went to hit him with the side of her gun but he stabbed her in her side causing her to drop the gun. She then threw a punch and then kneed him between the legs. She then hit him in the nose with her forehead. Then dug her fist in his gut as hard as she could. He staggered back and she was able to quickly pick up the gun and fired.

She then turned back to the others and fired shot after shot. She caught something in the corner of her eye and before she had to think, she hit the head with the barrel of the gun. She looked around and spotted that they were all dead.

"Looks like we're not going to return here."

She panted as she nodded. They soon had all the turquoise blocks and then returned to base. Loc looked at the clock and knew that it was time for lunch. She did not need the painful rumbling in her stomach to tell her that. She then ate her three cubes. She was back in the office and spotted that Wolf Raven was there too.

"By gum!" Wolf Raven exclaimed as he gave him a block.

Light Bringer chuckled.

"Another mission?"

"Yes please."

"How many missions have you done today?"

"Two or three."

"Then if you want more, then I have to go on another one this afternoon. Care to come?"

"Sure."

"Are you up for another?"

"Definitely!"

"Alright I'll take her."

"Then good luck."

They were soon back on the road.

"So what's the mission?"

"Do you like action?"

"Yes."

"Then you will love this one, but the first mission will lead to the next one. So can you handle that?"

"Sure."

She soon arrived at the base. The moment she saw the guns she scrolled down the window and then sat on the window frame. Looped her seatbelt around her leg and fired. She did not have time to aim, so she did not choose who she took out. She let the blur of bullets cloud the vision of those who she took out. She did not focus upon what she was doing. Once the returning fire ceased she dropped down and put her seatbelt back on.

"Good work!" Wolf Raven said, stroking the back of her neck and chuckling slightly.

"Thank you."

She soon felt her heartbeat increase. Yet she knew that she would have to continue. She needed to continue. They soon climbed out of the bus. She followed him out of the door. He then tapped on the buttons. Then the doors opened. They were soon met with a barrel of the gun.

"You are going to have to be careful. There are children of our rebels here."

She nodded as we took out a few shards of firecrys and fired at the guards. Their heads were set alight. She then ran on and did the same to the next guards. She did this until she saw the class of the children.

"Wolf Raven."

"Right."

He then shot the false teacher and usured them all into the hallway and then they all were in the bus. She then followed and got more and more children on the bus. Then they were back on the road. They soon spotted a car coming next to the bus. She, knowing what was about to happen, quickly rolled down the window and shot at the car and it combusted. She then fell back in.

"Don't worry, we'll get you to your parents." Wolf Raven assured them almost like a parent.

All of them looked at him and smiled teary eyed.

"The Evil Emperor separates them. Mainly in order to weaken and tame his prisoners. Speaking of which, now onto the next mission."

They did not drive to the base. They drove to a prison. She picked up a new gun and then she did what she did earlier that afternoon. She soon mowed them down. They were soon in.

"So, how do we tell the difference between the ones that belong here and the rebels?"

"Simple, the ones that belong in a place like this would only be here to break a rebel of great will. Other than that, those kinds of people are kept in a different prison."

She nodded as she got out and Wolf Raven followed. She followed him to the door. He tapped the keyboard and the door was open. She walked on and soon spotted the multitude of guards. They fired at her instantly. She was hit again and again and again before she had the chance to fire at them. She then felt her head start to pound as it felt light.

"Loc?"

"I'm fine."

She then forced herself on gripping her gun as the itching came as her body healed. She then followed Wolf Raven to the next hall. She openfired before they had the time or chance to fire. They soon fell.

She was about to go on until she saw one run at her and plunged a knife into her but missing her heart but hit a lung. She found it difficult to breathe as she took out a shard of firecrys and lit it and stabbed him in the head. Yet despite knowing that she should take a break, she marched on. Yet as she did, she has to fight against the urge to scratch. She openfired again, but she became well aware of her stamina decreasing as she did. Exhaustion was starting to sink in like fangs of a snake. Yet despite this, she had to continue.

She fired again and again at more and more guards as she did, she could see her eyelids drop. She could feel her hands shaking and her gun slipped. She soon noticed this and regained her grip on the gun and ran on. She soon came to the cells that kept the prisoners and almost immediately after she made quick work of the guards, her leg slipped and she hit her head.

The next minute she was waking up in a hospital room. Her mind was calm yet she still knew that she needed more rest. So she closed her eyes and went back to sleep. She then woke up covered in sweat.

"That was reckless!" Spoke Light Bringer.

"Did we get them out?"

"You mean did Wolf Raven get them out! And the answer is yes. Even though you did faint, you did take out most of the guards. So it was significantly easier on him, but I will stay here and ensure that you recover."

"But-"

"Look, just because you are immortal does not mean you can get away with being reckless. You can still get hurt and,as you have just experienced, faint. Now get your rest."

Stopped

Loc woke up. She looked at the clock. It was five o'clock in the morning. She slipped out of bed and after a shower and putting her clothes on, she made her way to Light Bringer's office. She still did not feel any kind of satisfaction from the day before. In fact her craving for the next mission only increased. She knew that she would do anything for another mission, even if she had to take it herself.

"No." He simply said.

That saw fast. I didn't even get to open my mouth!

"What?" She asked, feeling slightly angry.

"You're not going on a mission."

She frowned and pouted.

"Why not?"

"I can see that you have not fully regained the strength and energy that you need. Not to mention that it is all too clear that you need to rest, as in properly rest."

She opened her mouth.

"Do I have to restrain you? After all, the way that you are now, you will need a holiday."

"But-"

"I said no. If you want to do something, then read as many books as you can."

"Right." She said passively.

It took all that she could to restrain herself from giving into her anger. No, she knew that it was more than anger. It was rage.

Looks like I'm going to have to get a mission another way.

"Remember, don't make me restrain you."

"Alright!" She said, pretending to be nonchalant.

He let out a sigh. He took her by the wrist and put a cuff on her then he put one on his. Then they made their way to the library. Knowing that she would just have to play along, she took out a book and started to read. She had chosen a book on lock picking. She carefully hid the title of the book as she read. She read as much as she could until breakfast. Then she ate her cubes and Light Bringer also ate his. Yet, whenever he looked away she looked at the cuff. She examined every angle of it. She soon knew it from every angle and how to get it off.

Now, when would the best time be? She thought, toying with it.

She tailed him throughout the day. It was soon night and she knew the moment the cuffs came off would be the time. When he took them off she did not dare hesitate. She quickly hit him as hard as she could and ran directly towards the office.

She soon found a mission and she ran out of the office . She knew better than to go anywhere near her team. She knew where she had to go. So she ran as fast as she could to where the car park was. She made sure to run as fast as she could. She wanted to get there before anyone could stop her. So that it would already be too late.

She was about to get into a car when she was tackled from behind. She threw a punch. To her surprise Wolf Raven caught it. She pulled back and then hit him in the stomach. Yet this did not budge him one bit. She hit him again and again, yet he did nothing. She threw a kick to his loins and he was yanked back and hit the ground.

When he got back up again, he looked at her in such a frightful rage that she knew that she was truly in danger. He ran up to her before she knew it. He then threw a punch in her gut, which was the hardest that she had ever felt. This was followed by another and another. She had to block one after another trying to keep up with his incredible speed.

Yet she still was able to get up and flicked out a kick. Which he caught. She then jumped and kicked him in the gut. He let her go and hit her in the temple. She spun forward and she hit the ground. She was about to get up until she felt a foot on her chest. She moved to the left, but his foot was far too firm and sturdy. She hit his ankle. He lifted his foot before she could even hit him. Then she felt a kick in her side. She used the moment to propel herself up. She looked to where Wolf Raven was but found nothing. The next moment she felt his arms around her throat. Then her head was thrust into the concrete and all went black.

Next moment she was in the hospital.

"That was out of order."

She was about to say something.

"You could have put this whole thing in jeopardy. So as of today, until further notice, you are relieved of all your duties and will be escorted to the Resting Base. You could call it your holiday. There you are not to leave until you have the rest that you need. Do you understand?"

She nodded.

"I said, do you understand?"

"Yes, sir."

He cleared his throat.

"Yes, Light Bringer."

"Good."

Time Off

Loc arrived at the Resting Base. Which was a large black cube of a building. With barely anything on display. It looked very much like someone just plonked a black cube the size and width of a large town. She drove down a tunnel with orange and amber lighting.

Part of her felt frustrated and the eagerness of going on another mission had by far not died down. In fact, it had increased. She could feel it pulsing inside her threatening to break her body apart. She had to force herself to become calm. If she did not, then she would never set foot on the battlefield ever again.

When she got out of the van the first thing that she noticed was the strange heat. It had a strange and slight moisture to the air. She started to feel at ease. Almost like the air itself was giving her a massage and soothing her muscles. Suddenly all her frustrations and eagerness seemed to melt away like wax. Her shoulders dropped and she let out a breath.

She was led to a room that was lilac all over. Even the covers on the bed that had a furry texture to them and the carpet was furry and soft against her skin. She spotted that there was an oblong mirror. She walked to the door that led to a spacious bathroom. It had a turquoise rug in the centre of the room with a bath and shower on the left and a sink and toilet on the right.

Feeling sweaty and dirty, she took a shower. Which was the best that she ever had here in this world. Her hair and body felt cleaner than it had ever felt. It even smelt better, almost like strawberry and coconut. Her skin felt somehow lighter on her muscles.

Then she took out a woolly purple top and a pair of white trousers. She was given a pair of trainers and put them on. She then wandered about the place. She soon found a library. She took out a book and spotted a window ledge and sat on it and curled up as she read it. She soon became lost in the words. She soon finished the book. She then put it away.

She found herself looking at the books. She felt hungry and walked to the dining hall. She soon took a cube. It tasted like blueberry muffin and with a hint of cinnamon and ginger. She then grabbed a purple coloured drink. It tasted like Turkish delight and she smiled. She had not tasted anything so sweet in a long time. She then took another cube and ate it slowly to milk the taste and retain it as long as she could. So when she finished, she wanted more, but she refrained from doing so.

She found herself thinking about things. Not on her missions, just on life and not on returning to her world nor about defeating her sisters. Just life and what she genuinely wanted to do. Yet she could not think of an answer. She had been so fixated on defeating her sisters that she realised that left little room for anything else in her mind. Then coming here she had been so fixated on defeating the Evil Emperor that she had left no room for anything else. Even worse, she almost inflicted that very same thing on her team.

You know, it is quite quiet. She realised. Yes. When was the last time I had such peace in my mind?

Her eyes winced as she thought about the question.

You know…I don't think that I know…

She then walked around to see a swimming pool. She walked to it. She was given a deep purple swimming suit. She felt suddenly shy as she put it on. It made her feel slightly exposed as she walked to the pool. She felt slightly relieved as she saw others in the same, just in different colours. Then she rested her foot in the pool and was taken back by just how hot the pool was. She soon dived in. She then took a few laps. She soon felt her muscles relaxed. Then she kept it up wanting to just enjoy the time swimming. After all, she knew that she would never have time to do this once she had returned.

She left the pool and took a shower. She then curled on the window ledge in the library. She looked on and saw a family playing with their children. She soon left and, at seven, visited the nurse. She checked her pulse and a quick check up.

"You seem healthy, but it is not your physical health that this place is for."

"I know."

"You have been assigned to stay here for a week. So enjoy yourself and your time here."

She nodded.

"I will try."

To her surprise, she found that she did not need to try.
